Well... things seem a might slower at the ol' blog today. I must've scared people off by asking them to reply to the last post. Ah well, I'll post something to keep my streak a-goin'. Remember when I told you I was cooking up a best-of 2006 music post? Well, I wasn't lying. I've been sitting on the best albums and tunes of the year, after narrowing them down just once. Before I do the final narrowing (soon), here's what we're looking at:

Album of the year:
(That I actually own in some form)

John Mayer - Continuum
My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade
Neko Case - Fox Confessor Brings The Flood
Sarah Harmer - I'm A Mountain
Sloan - Never Hear The End Of It
Joel Plaskett - Make a Little Noise
K-Os - Atlantis / Hymns For Disco
Shaun Verreault - the daggerlip sketches
Ron Sexsmith - Time Being
Ron Hynes - Ron Hynes
Ian Toms - Open (I don't own this one, I just wanted to give Ian some publicity!)

Song of the year:
Not to say that other songs don't deserve to be on top of ones here... also, I narrowed things down to only one tune per musical act. Again, only tunes I have are listed.

Emm Gryner - Almighty Love
Fergie - London Bridge
Gnarls Barkley - Crazy
Beth Orton - Conceived
Goldfrapp - Ooh La La (Mike "Spike" Stent Single Version)
Joanna Newsom - Emily
Timbaland / Nelly / JT - Take your pick
The Killers - When You Were Young
Lily Allen - Smile
The Little Willies - I Gotta Get Drunk
My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade
Outkast - Idlewild Blues
The Raconteurs - Steady As She Goes
RHCP - Dani California
Rhymefest - Fever
Robert Randolph w/ Eric Clapton - Jesus Is Just Alright
John Legend & Sergio Mendes - Please Baby Don't
Sarah Harmer - Escarpment Blues
John Mayer - Waiting For The World To Change
Sloan - Who Taught You To Live Like That
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Fancy (@ Coachella '06)
Joel Plaskett - Nowhere With You
Bubbles - Liquor & Whores @ ECMA gala
Tom Petty - Saving Grace
The Tom Fun Orchestra - The Watchmaker
Peaches - Give 'er
Ron Hynes - Movie Scene
City & Colour - Save Your Scissors
Carmen Townsend - River Rat

Stay tuned for the exciting (and hopefully soon) conclusion!

What do you think about the lists?

I've heard so much about Neko Case's latest release...but I haven't picked it up yet. I may have to break down soon! Also, I didn't even realize that Sarah Harmer had a new one out this year!

I stopped reading after John Mayer. That man/boy hypnotizes me.

Don't delay on Neko. I've loved her for years, and this is my fave one, I think. Furnace Room Lullaby is right up there, too.

Yes, John Mayer is good... perhaps even dreamy (to a female).

-Yeah, I'm cool like that. 8)
I'm bad, I'm nationwide... I'm underground!

Oh, and that Sarah Harmer one... Amazon says it was released in 2005 and 2006... and on the 2005 entry, it says release date of Feb 2006, so I don't know what's right, and I'm not going to bother finding out. I only picked it up in 2006 from the library, so I'm going with it.

Hey, I heard The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance on the radio tonight...that song's like Queen/Green Day...all kinds of flavours in there.

And Sarah Harmer's CD - are you talking about I'm a Mountain?

Yeah, that's what I meant. I caught that the other day. I wrote down the tune "I am Aglow" instead of "I'm a Mountain". It's been rectified. I wonder if anyone ever used that word as a term for, like, you know... getting made a bitch in prison kind of a thing.
